India to lock down whole country to battle coronavirus

Almost 500 coronavirus cases have been reported in India so far, according to Health Ministry data on Tuesday.

In a televised address on Tuesday night, the prime minister, Narendra Modi, announced that for the next 21 days, nearly one fifth of the world's population should "forget what going out means". "Social distancing is for every citizen, for every family, for every member of the family", he said.

Modi also confirmed an allocation of $19.6 billion package for COVID-19, to procure medical equipments and protective gear, testing facilities, personal protection equipments, intensive care units, and also an increased training of the medical and paramedical staff.

Out of more than 409,000 confirmed cases, the death toll now exceeds 18,200, while almost 106,500 have recovered.

"To save India, to save its every citizen, you, your family [.] every street, every neighbourhood is being put under lockdown", Modi said in a televised address. If we don't handle these 21 days well, our country can be pushed back by 21 years.

WHO Representative to India Henk Bekedam praised the country's response to the pandemic, describing it as "comprehensive and robust".

"It is vital that we come together in solidarity and help in breaking the chain of transmission and flattening the curve", he said.

To soften the economic blow from the shutdown, the Indian government announced a number of measures on Tuesday. "So it's really important that India continues to take aggressive action".

Anyone with Minecraft for Bedrock platforms can find these worlds by launching Minecraft and visiting the in-game store. While many people are working from home, there are a large number of students who are also trying to learn from home.

"India is a hugely populous country".

With all that in mind, India's concern seems warranted, and a lockdown might be the only measure that could significantly slow down the disease in such a densely populated region.

The Coronavirus outbreak is the biggest danger throughout the world right now and even though there are people who have been taking all the necessary precautions, it turns out, it might not be enough.

"What we're doing is buying precious time through good old-fashioned isolation and quarantine", said Gagandeep Kang, a medical virologist and director of the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Faridabad (Haryana). There are no easy answers. "India led the world in eradicating two pandemics, small-pox and polio so India has a tremendous capacity", Michael J Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organisation, said yesterday.

"The pandemic is accelerating", Tedros told journalists in a virtual news briefing.

"It took 67 days for the count of people infected with corona to reach the first one lakh all over the world".

"From 12 midnight today, the entire country will go under a complete lockdown to save India and for every Indian, there will be a total ban on venturing out of your homes", said Modi. Only the headline has been changed.
