Coronavirus: Pop superstar Rihanna donates $8.75 million to relief efforts

Rihanna's Clara Lionel Foundation is joining the global fight against coronavirus by giving $5 million to the response efforts.

Fans of Rihanna know that she created the Clara Lionel Foundation in honor of her grandparents, Lionel Braithwaite and Clara, in 2012.

"It doesn't matter who you are or where you're from, this pandemic will affect us all", the statement said. And for the world's most vulnerable, the worst may be yet to come. CLF has distributed the funds to at least five different non-profits, including Direct Relief, Partners In Health, Feeding America, the International Rescue Committee, the World Health Organization's COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Other celebrities - including Justin Timberlake, Donatella Versace and many National Basketball Association players - have also donated funds to help schools, hospitals and food banks overwhelmed by the pandemic.
