Patriots are signing QB Brian Hoyer

In the wake of the seismic changes in their quarterback room, the New England Patriots have turned to a familiar face.

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the Patriots will pay Hoyer $1.05 million in 2020.

Unlike his previous tenure with the Patriots, Hoyer might just have a path to legitimate playing time with only Jarrett Stidham and Cody Kessler remaining on the New England depth chart. The Indianapolis Colts released him on Saturday, not long after finalizing a deal with free agent quarterback Philip Rivers, who spent his entire career with the Chargers.

World Health Organization study reveals: Coronavirus could be airborne
The virus is transmitted through droplets, or little bits of liquid, mostly through sneezing or coughing, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO said. "Every loss of life is a tragedy".

Of course, Hoyer's second stint with the Patriots ended in his release during last year's preseason when the team chose Stidham over him as Brady's backup, so there is past indication the team likes the second-year passer over the veteran.

The 34-year-old Hoyer's arrival likely takes the Patriots out of play for other experienced signal-callers that are on the market, including Cam Newton, Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston.

Hoyer appeared in 4 games for the Colts in 2019 and 35 of 65 pass attempts (53.8 percent) for 372 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. This will be Hoyer's third tour of duty in New England, where he broke into the league as a rookie free agent in 2009. Over a couple of seasons in Cleveland, Hoyer started 16 games in which the team went 10-6. He showed a lot of promise given the three touchdowns he threw against the Steelers.
