Ontario confirms 47 new coronavirus cases, province at 8 resolved

People over the age of 70 who are symptomatic, or who have underlying medical conditions, are asked to Eastern Ontario public health unit at 613-933-1375 or 1-800- 267-7120.

In the Toronto case, the man ended up going to Trillium Health Partners hospital in Mississauga on March 14. He died on Saturday.

The Province is now investigating 7,239 potential COVID-19 cases, with six resolved cases and two deaths so far.

Health officials have reported the first COVID-19-related deaths in Toronto and York Region, as the total number of cases in Ontario rises to 425.

Before the announcement Sunday afternoon, the province said there were three deaths connected to COVID-19.

"We extend our honest condolences to the family and friends of the individual who died this weekend", said Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto's Medical Officer of Health, in a statement.

"I want to emphasize the importance of everybody taking very seriously the pandemic", said Dr. Gardner, again petitioning the public to isolate themselves, exercise social distancing when they are out, and to wash their hands frequently.

Other measures recommended for your protection - and the protection of others - including washing your hands often with soap and water, sneezing and coughing into your sleeve, avoiding any face touching, staying at home when you're sick, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects.

Health officials in York Region, meanwhile, recorded their first coronavirus-related death - a Markham woman in her 70s who had returned Saturday from an worldwide trip.

After being picked up at the airport by her son and daughter-in-law, she collapsed in their home in Toronto a few hours later and died.

Hawkesbury and District General Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Julie Maranda hoped that the local centre will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community and appreciates the partnership between the hospital and the EOHU.

An individual in their 30s from Prescott-Russell is in self-isolation at home.

Ontario has reported another 47 confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the provincial total to 424.

Italy announced its biggest day-to-day increase of infections, which rose by 6,600 with almost 800 new fatalities from the virus that causes COVID-19.

"Five of those have no known travel history, no link to someone who travelled, and no close contact with a confirmed case".

At his daily news conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said lock downs in other countries and air-space restrictions due to COVID-19 mean Canada won't be able to get every citizen home who is trapped overseas.
