Neil Diamond Updates 'Sweet Caroline': 'Hands… Washing Hands…'

Music icon Neil Diamond is trying to bring a glimmer of hope and positivity into the lives of all those stressing over the coronavirus pandemic right now. "I think maybe if we sing together, well, we'll just feel a little bit better", he said in the video. "Give it a try, okay?"

He sang an acoustic version of his famous hit "Sweet Caroline" with new lyrics that some would call guidelines for social distancing.

Kicking off the rewritten song in times of the COVID-19, he sang: "Hands.washing hands".

More than 60 percent of the most recent deaths occurred in the northern region of Lombardy. "If you do, we can make this outbreak slow down", he said.

He's not the first musician to change up some of their hit songs to deliver the hand-washing message, with Liam Gallagher taking to Twitter and changing hit Oasis songs Supersonic, Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall to Soapersonic, Champagne Soapernova and Wonderwash respectively.

The video has more than a million views, been liked more than 42,000 times on Facebook and shared more than 55,000 times.

Before releasing the amusing "Sweet Caroline", remix, Diamond - who recently announced his retirement after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease - offered encouragement to those at the front lines of the pandemic on Saturday. A version of The Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was also given a viral update, as was Pink Floyd's "Hey You". Write me a verse.
