IN has first confirmed case of coronavirus, governor declares public health emergency

The Tippecanoe County Health Department declared a county public health emergency after the first case of coronavirus in IN was confirmed Friday.

Taken into isolation, the patient was placed in a room with negative air flow to be tested and then was transported back to the self quarantine, Ram Yeleti, chief physician executive of Community Health Network said in the article. Holcomb declared a public health emergency to coordinate the state's response.

"We can expect to see other cases in IN in the future", she said, though she emphasized that the state is "prepared for that possibility" and encouraged all "Hoosiers to educate themselves about COVID-19".

According to Eyewitness News, the patient is from Marion County and recently traveled to Boston where he attended an event and came into contact with the virus.

IN health officials confirmed Friday a case of COVID-19 in Indianapolis. "The Hoosier who has been diagnosed has taken responsible steps to stay isolated".

The CDC said symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure.

The Province is now investigating 7,239 potential COVID-19 cases, with six resolved cases and two deaths so far. Ontario has reported another 47 confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the provincial total to 424.


Leaders say they do not have testing kits locally - but they are working closely in connection with the Indiana State Department of Health. Samples will be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for final confirmation.

"Given the global spread of this illness, the question was never if IN would have a case, but when it would arrive".

IN began testing COVID-19 on Saturday, with 12 people having been tested so far with 35 quarantined. She called it an isolated case. The CDC is now working to identify all passengers on the patient's flight from Boston and anyone he came into close contact with during that time.

According to the release, the public health emergency declaration will call on state agencies to continue cooperating to respond to coronavirus and ensure the state can seek funding to help control and stop the spread of the virus. According to the Washington Post, President Donald Trump is expected to sign the legislation. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

For the lower-risk population, Adler urged continued attention to measures such as hand washing and staying home if sick.
