A 12-year-old girl "fights for her life" in an Atlanta hospital after being tested positive for coronavirus, according to a report.

The child's cousin told CNN that, as of Saturday, she was "fighting for her life" on a ventilator.

Emma was diagnosed with pneumonia on March 15 and tested positive for Coronavirus on Friday.

Anthony said that Emma had no pre-existing conditions and did not travel recently to any foreign country.

The 12-year-old has not traveled recently and it is unclear how she contracted the risky bug, he said.

The Children's Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite Hospital confirmed that a child has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. "Additional details will not be released due to patient privacy laws", said hospital spokeswoman Jessica Pope.

Children are contracting the virus and are playing a huge role in spreading the virus to other people.

"What we need to prepare for is the possibility that children can also experience severe disease", Kerkhove told reporters.

On March, 18, the World Health Organization cautioned parents to prepare to safeguard their children against the coronavirus.

There were no ICU admissions reported for those under age 19, the report said.

The infected person is said to be isolated and recovering at home.

'People need to take this seriously'.

The positive cases include a hospital employee at the Abbeville Area Medical Center, according to the hospital. He told CNN that Emma's mother gave him permission to share her story.
