Fellaini becomes first player to test positive for Coronavirus in Chinese League

The 32-year-old former Everton and Manchester United player is now plying his trade in the Chinese Super League (CSL) for Shandong Luneng.

It is believed Fellaini caught the virus in Dubai but was tested in Jinan on March 20th.

Intensifying reports in recent days had suggested cautious optimism that the league may be able to restart soon, especially with China able to drastically reduce the number of domestically transmitted coronavirus cases.

In the Premier League, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Adoi were among the many people in England who also tested positive.

The 32-year-old now plays for CSL side Shandong Luneng, after leaving Old Trafford for China in 2019.

Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz, who was hospitalised with the coronavirus, died on Saturday at the age of 76.

"Hi everyone, I just wanted to inform you that we have received the results for the Covid-19 test and both Oriana and I have tested positive", Dybala posted on Twitter.

Fellaini, however, is the first player in the country's top flight to have returned a positive test for the virus.

A statement from his club read: "The official test confirmed that the player Fellaini has tested positive for coronavirus during the quarantine observation period. Thanks for your messages".

China, Italy, the USA, Germany, Spain, and Iran are some of the hard-hit countries, with the situation worsening by each passing day.

"But we can't do that, because next summer there's the Euros, the Copa America, etc".
