A 7th Grader Provides the Name for NASA's Next Mars Rover

NASA's next Mars rover finally has a name. But, Alexander Mather, a seventh-grader from a Secondary School in Burke, was congratulated by NASA officials. "We, not as a nation but as humans, will not give up", Mather wrote in his essay.

I knew right away that I was working where I was working for the rest of my life. He got here up with Perseverance whereas contemplating earlier Mars robots like Curiosity, the Spirit, Alternative and Pathfinder/Sojourner rovers that preceded it, and the Perception lander at present at work on Mars.

"Curiosity, insight, spirit, opportunity".

Each competitor of NASA's planetary science department, Lori Glaze, presented her name to the included panel. When they came up with name ideas, they were students He advises To "keep it G-level" and not use current, past, or planned space missions, brands or people (at least now living).

A forerunner of the "Preseverance" was the Mars Rover "Curiosity". "The rovers are like us, they have names". Perseverance will land on February 18, 2021. The car-size rover will look for signs of ancient, microbial life and collect rock and soil samples for eventual return to Earth. A reputation plate has been mounted on the rover's robotic arm, and all 155 semifinalist names and essays, etched on a microchip, will probably be despatched to Mars as properly. It's already surmounted many obstacles to get us to the point where we are today - processing for launch. "The list [of past rover names] was good, but it felt like it was missing something".

Trump scare shows no American is immune from coronavirus risk
It's not clear how US relief would be administered or whether President Trump's own hotels could be beneficiaries. For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough.

However, we skipped the most crucial aspect if the rovers were to be the virtues of us as a race, persistence.

Mars 2020 is part of a larger program that includes missions to the Moon as a way to prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. But after winning the naming contest, there was a lot of attention on me - unlike anything I'd ever known. "Perseverance? You bet, that is a worthy name that we can be proud of".

Along with forever being associated with the mission, Mather will also receive an invitation to travel with his family to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida to witness the rover begin its journey when it launches this summer.

In January, nine finalists have been introduced: Perseverance, Readability, Braveness, Endurance, Fortitude, Ingenuity, Promise, Tenacity, and Imaginative and prescient. More than 770,000 votes were counted online.

"Alex's entry captured the spirit of exploration", said Zurbuchen. "I didn't think my voice was important".
