Some Israelis, Palestinians asked to self-quarantine

The government task force on response to emerging infectious diseases will meet Wednesday to determine if a travel ban will also be imposed on South Korea amid the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) there, a Cabinet official said Tuesday.

The Smartraveller alert also included a warning for anyone travelling to Italy, which has had three deaths from coronavirus.

On Saturday, the Malaysian health director general, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that the American passenger was now clear of the coronavirus and was being monitored in the hospital with a "slight cough", after an antiretroviral treatment.

A notice on the CDC's website Monday evening urged travelers to "avoid all nonessential travel to South Korea", citing limited access to medical services in areas where the coronavirus outbreak has been reported.

At the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday, Kang said she is "deeply concerned about incidents of xenophobia and hatred, discriminatory immigration controls and arbitrary repatriation programs against individuals from the affected countries".

The group had already returned to South Korea, where 18 of their number were subsequently confirmed as having contracted coronavirus. And as of Tuesday afternoon, ...17 other countries, including the UK, Brunei, Kazakhstan, Macao, Singapore and Thailand ...imposed restrictions on those entering from South Korea, ...such as placing passengers in quarantine or conducting health checks.

Australia does not have a local carrier that flies into South Korea.

China reported another 97 deaths in its daily update Sunday, taking its total to 2,442, plus 648 new infections.

Twelve Israelis on board were allowed to disembark, screened for fever and driven by ambulances to quarantine at their homes.

Last week, 15 Israelis were released from quarantine aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship off Japan's coast, with 11 given a clean bill of health and brought back to Israel.
