Secretary of State won't mark party affiliation on ballot

Voters with a valid driver's license or ID card provided by the Georgia Department of Driver Services can also register to vote in-person until 5 p.m. today at the Dawson County Board of Elections and Voter Registration office at 96 Academy Avenue in Dawsonville.

Counties must begin processing mail-in and absentee ballot applications 50 days before the election - meaning by March 9 for the April 28 primary.

Overall, turnout for early voting has been fairly underwhelming in Tennessee.

The official reason for this is to help make sure that people are only voting for the party they belong to.

Mail-in ballots are for voters who want to vote by mail before Election Day, instead of going to their polling place on Election Day. Unaffiliated voters may choose to participate in one of the following: Democratic, Libertarian or Republican primary. "Please allow enough time for the ballot to be mailed to you and for you to return the ballot by Election Day", Galvin's website says. Again, though, taxpayers are subsidizing these elections. "They do not come to the Board of Elections Office on Election Day; they must go to their precinct", stressed Allman, who said this is often a point of confusion for voters. On Feb. 21, CNN reported that "more than 1.3 million vote-by-mail ballots have been returned in California since February 3".

Earlier this month, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 207, authored by local Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) and coauthored by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), which will simplify the process for voters updating specified personal information, such as their address, or party preference in the two weeks prior to and including Election Day.
