Coronavirus quarantine keeps Finns in Tenerife hotel lockdown

Guest Christopher Betts said over the phone from his room that there were police cars stationed at all entrances.

"We're told we're in quarantine. The hotel seems to be acting normally, except that we can not go out", he said.

The company is now trying to reassure customers who are staying at other hotels that there have been no confirmed cases of anyone having coronavirus and they do not need to self-isolate.

"We're talking about a virus that doesn't respect borders", Italy's Health Minister Roberto Speranza said.

They fear that being locked in the four-star hotel they will face the same outcome as passengers onboard the Diamond Princess ship, where the virus spread as the boat remained quarantined off Yokohama.

"I mean, it's only day two and we're struggling".

'It's been a bit hit and miss, but we have been given basic "picnic" food and we have now been allowed out of our rooms at our own risk, ' she added.
