China sees fewer suspected cases of COVID-19

The new cases and death toll are also an increase from the 394 new infections and 114 new deaths reported Wednesday.

At central China's Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, the provincial government announced on its official website on Friday afternoon that there are 271 confirmed cases in the province's prisons, including 230 in a women's prison in the province's capital of Wuhan.

The latest policy, which reversed a change to diagnostic criteria made just a week earlier, was followed by a sudden drop in daily infection cases reported Thursday.
