SpaceX botches 50th Falcon rocket booster landing

SpaceX can clearly turn these around pretty quickly now and is probably more bound by mission cadence than other factors - this mission was originally set to fly on February 13, but was delayed twice until today. You can watch the launch and return of the Falcon 9 through the YouTube stream below. SpaceX missed the rocket landing, an important step in the fourth flight of this year.

The launch from Cape Canaveral delivered 60 satellites that the company hopes will become part of a constellation of thousands in low Earth orbit that are meant to beam the Internet to remote corners of the world not served by broadband. Although experts state that this work will be problematic, SpaceX does not intend to stop.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket rumbled aloft from Cape Canaveral Air Station in Florida at roughly 10:05 a.m. local time and the satellites successfully deployed. Launching could be done with a delay of 24 hours due to a problem with the pressure valve.

SpaceX successfully launched its latest cluster of high-speed internet satellites into orbit on February 17 but was unable to land its rocket booster on an autonomous ship, missing a key milestone.

Due to the number of satellites that are expected to populate low-Earth orbit, the astronomers are anxious conducting ground-based astronomical observations will no longer be possible.

SpaceX launches fifth batch of Starlink satellites, misses booster landing

SpaceX launched B1056 for the first time with the CRS-17 launch on May 4, 2019.

After a number of initial failures, the landings have been largely successful. Adding it is a trickier manoeuvre to accomplish but it saves the company time, fuel and money in terms of launch costs.

The space firm previously launched 60 Starlink satellites at a time in May, November and on January 6 and January 29, with two test satellites launched before that.

SpaceX missed recovering the first-stage booster from the launch aboard a ship.

Moreover, in a dozen or so missions since 2016, SpaceX decided against attempting landings, usually during the missions that require the launch vehicle to reach high velocities. According to SpaceX, the rocket landed in the sea as a single piece.
