'Gloves will be off': Nevada debate could be pivotal for Democrats

Bloomberg has been gaining popularity in opinion polls since he joined the Democratic nomination race last November.

"If elected President, Mike will sell the company", Bloomberg campaign national spokeswoman Galia Slayen said.

According to NBC, a preliminary analysis of the results shows Bloomberg and Buttigieg received the votes lost by Biden, as moderate Democrats look for a place to go in opposition to the self-described democratic socialist Sanders.

This will be the first time Michael Bloomberg steps on stage before a national television audience for a debate.

Trying to keep expectations in check, aides have repeatedly noted in recent days that Bloomberg's rivals have had multiple debates to hone their skills and talking points.

Wednesday's Democratic debate in Las Vegas will be the first time that he has been forced to articulate his views in the company of his opponents.

Polls indicate that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is increasing his lead in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Candidates were previously required to receive a certain number of campaign contributions to qualify, but Bloomberg, who is worth an estimated $60 billion, is not taking donations.

He made a decision to skip the first four nominating contests, held in states where campaigns traditionally spend a year organizing supporters, to focus instead on the delegate-rich primaries that take place beginning on Super Tuesday, March 3.

Indeed, Bloomberg has spent some $300 million on political advertising so far, which is more than several of the other Democratic candidates combined.

Biden came in third in the new NPR/PBS/Marist poll, with 15%, followed by Warren at 12%, Klobuchar at 9% and Buttigieg at 8%.

Six candidates qualified for the debate: Joe Biden, Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Trump previously bestowed the nickname "Mini Mike" on the former NY mayor in reference to his short stature.

Bloomberg was a Democrat until he left the party in 2001.

Bradley Tusk, who served as Bloomberg's campaign manager in 2009, is running the debate prep.

Recently released surveys, including a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, provided Bloomberg the percentages he needed to get into the Nevada debate. "We need that kind of compassion in our next president", Mizrahi wrote on Twitter.

The timeline of events strongly suggests that the latest scandal has been coordinated between the corporate media, the Democratic National Committee, the Biden campaign and a section of the trade union bureaucracy in an effort to blunt Sanders' margin of victory in Nevada. This is despite the emergence last week of tapes and newspaper accounts documenting his racist defense of the "stop and frisk" policy he employed during his twelve-year stint as mayor of NY to terrorize mostly minority workers and youth.

Unlike the current US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly been criticised for his refusal to disengage from his business after moving into the White House, the owner of Bloomberg LP and one of the world's wealthiest people, who aspires to take on Trump in the 2020 elections, promises to choose another path.
