Jujhar Khaira looks to elevate game with Oilers in Zack Kassian's absence

Kassian was busy trying to help the Edmonton Oilers win on the road against the Tampa Bay Lightning for the first time in almost a decade.

With Zack Kassian out of the lineup, Edmonton Oilers forward Jujhar Khaira knows he's required to do heavier lifting.

The ugly incident went down during the first period of Thursday's Lightning-Oilers game, with Kassian clearly and intentionally kicking Cernak in the chest while the two were tangled up along the sideboards.

"He was holding my leg, it was reactionary", he told Sportsnet's Mark Spector. I was just trying to get my foot loose. "I was laying there for a while, a couple of seconds, so I was just trying to pull my leg out..."

He added that he flew up in the sky to get the entire view of the map, which he shared on the social networking site. Screenshots purported to be from the mode are identified by a logo in the top left reading "Warzone".

Kassian waived his right to the in-person hearing, and a phone hearing will be conducted Friday afternoon, the league added.

Had Kassian aimed a little bit higher, Cernak's neck, throat or face could have been swiped, which could have resulted in a horrifying scene. "I asked him what was wrong with him?"

In the wake of the incident, many on social media opined Kassian should have to sit should have to sit out the rest of the season. Cernak was not injured on the play.

The suspension comes a month after Kassian was suspended two games for grabbing Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk by the collar, throwing him to the ice, and punching him several times.
