With eye on moon, NASA to seek new astronaut applicants in March

Nasa has recently announced that they are looking for new astronauts to include in their group which now consists of 48 scientists. NASA is looking for some talented and eligible women and men to join this time; the application procedure will start from March 2.

If you've always dreamed of exploring space, here's your chance.

"We're celebrating our 20th year of continuous presence aboard the International Space Station in low-Earth orbit this year, and we're on the verge of sending the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024", said NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine in a press statement.

"We're asking all eligible Americans if they have what it takes to apply", he said.

In this regard, the United States giant has already started looking for new astronauts for the Artemis project, inviting interested parties to participate in the selection procedures.

According to NASA, the astronauts who will complete the training could eventually live and work aboard the ISS to take part in experiments that will help prepare NASA for further explorations.

NASA says it will choose its new class of competitors in mid-2021.

As in past years, applicants need to be USA citizens and either have a degree in the sciences or engineering or be qualified as a test pilot. Of course, they'll also be required to pass NASA's physical requirements, which include 20/20 vision (or with corrective lenses), a resting blood pressure at or below 140/90 and stand between 62 to 75 inches (5-foot-2 to 6-foot-3). Fields such as engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science, or mathematics, from an accredited institution, will be considered.

And if you don't have either of those, you can meet the requirement by having two years of work in a STEM Ph.D. or a doctorate in medicine or osteopathic medicine or by the completion of a test pilot school program.

Candidates must also possess at least 2 years of related and/or progressively responsible professional experience OR at least 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft.

Those interested in applying will need to be a U.S. citizen and have an advanced degree in a STEM field, along with at least two years of related professional experience or at least 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft. The space agency has additionally launched a completely new requirement involving a two-hour-lengthy on-line evaluation. The last group of 11 NASA astronauts, graduated in January, were selected from 18000 applications.
