Transfer: Adebayor finally joins new club

Former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has completed a transfer move to Paraguayan side Club Olimpia as the club announced his signing on Tuesday evening.

The move does include one familiar face, though, as it does reunite Adebayor with former Manchester City team-mate Roque Santa Cruz, who joined the club in 2016 and has helped lead Olimpia to titles in the 2018 Apertura, 2018 Clausura and 2019 Apertura.

Club Olimpia who are now sitting fifth on the topflight standings in Paraguay want to fight for the title and they believe Emmanuel Adebayor is capable of helping them in front of goals.

Adebayor, who scored 97 goals in the Premier League, had been without a club since leaving Turkish side Kayserispor in December.

Adebayor moved to Turkey in 2017 to join for Istanbul Basaksehir before signing for Kayserispor.

"Adebayor hasn't come here on holiday", said Olimpia president Marcos Trovato at the event announcing his signature and that of other new recruits, including 25-year-old Paraguay forward Derlis Gonzalez from Dynamo Kiev.

In 446 league appearances spanning four different countries, Adebayor has 161 goals to his name and 52 assists.

Named the 2007 BBC African Footballer of the Year and the Caf African Player of the Year the following year, Adebayor's only silverware at club level was the 2011 Spanish Copa del Rey he won with Real Madrid.
