Oscars 2020 held a special moment of tribute for Kobe Bryant

Oscars 2020 held a special moment of tribute for Kobe Bryant

It has been just over two weeks since Kobe Bryant tragically lost his life on January 26 along with his daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others.

The first professional athlete to do so, Bryant himself won an Academy Award in 2018 when his film "Dear Basketball" won Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars.

During the "In Memoriam" tribute, other notable actors, artists and contributors to the world of cinema who died in the past year were remembered.

Lee added that he was not able to attend the awards show the night that Bryant won.

"Dear Basketball" was based on a poem Kobe wrote about the sport when he was about to announce his retirement from the hard court in 2015.

For Bloomberg, New York police targeting of minorities has loomed as a potentially major obstacle to winning black support. Also criticizing Bloomberg was Tom Steyer, a fellow billionaire seeking the Democratic nomination.

Billie Eilish took the stage at the 2020 Oscars to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant, Kirk Douglas and more late stars and members of the entertainment industry. Recalling to Seacrest, he said, "he beat me" - referring to Bryant winning the award over him in 2018.

For Lee, it's not the first time he has rocked an Oscar suit in honor of one of his fallen heroes.

"I don't know if it's possible. I am talking about what we gotta squash for Vanessa, the family", he told Porter, seemingly referring to some of the negative headlines made following the death of the National Basketball Association legend.

He also discussed creating "Dear Basketball" during an appearance on "Good Morning America" at the time of its premiere in 2017. "So you can see the growth, you can see the love".
