Mel Tucker hire unanimously approved by MSU Board of Trustees

Tucker replaces Mark Dantonio, who retired two weeks ago after 13 mostly successful seasons. His budget for assistants and strength and conditioning coaches will also increase significantly. That appears to be when the Spartans re-visited the possibility of hiring Tucker, an OH native and former Big Ten defensive back at Wisconsin.

Tucker left Alabama after that National Championship in 2015 and joined Kirby Smart at Georgia. Tucker is expected to receive approval from the Michigan State board of trustees on Wednesday afternoon. Tucker on the other hand has been climbing the coaching ranks year by year. He was on staff for the Buckeyes' 2002 national championship.

Tucker also posted on his Twitter account over the weekend: "While I am flattered to be considered for the head coaching job at Michigan State, I am committed to CU Buffs Football for the build of our program, its great athletes, coaches and supporters". The Buffaloes finished one win shy of their second bowl game in 12 seasons.

Colorado coach Mel Tucker looks for a call during the first half of the team's NCAA college football game against Washington on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, in Boulder, Colo.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wins the Daytona 500 pole
There was an opportunity in Sunday qualifying for two teams that don't hold charters to lock up spots in the starting grid. The pole victor has won the Daytona 500 nine times with Dale Jarrett the most recent one to do so 20 years ago.

Well, according to Wikipedia, which can be edited by anyone, the Spartans next offensive coordinator will be former Ohio State WR and coach, Brian Hartline. He was the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns in 2008 and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2009-2012).

MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo, who has been with the school since 1995, makes over $4 million a year. He served as Jacksonville's interim head coach for the end of the 2011 season, compiling a 2-3 record. When Fickell declined Michigan State's job offer on Monday morning, the Spartan search committee, led by Athletic Director Bob Beekman, circled back and made a hard run at Tucker.

"Returning home to Michigan State is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and my family, but it created the toughest decision of my life - to leave Colorado", Tucker said.
