Keaton Jennings recalled to England squad for Test series in Sri Lanka

Yorkshire batsman Jonny Bairstow misses the journey to take a break having been a part of the South Africa tour.

England has retired starter Keaton Jennings for the two-game test series in Sri Lanka in March with Jonny Bairstow and James Anderson rested and Moeen Ali is not yet available for selection.

'That squad is mostly retained, with some tweaks to the squad relevant to injury, rest and the challenges of playing in sub-continent conditions'.

However, Parkinson's Lancashire team-mate James Anderson has been asked to continue his recovery from a displaced fracture of the rib at Old Trafford.

The pair were both discarded after the West Indies tour 12 months ago but both of Jennings' Test hundreds have come on the subcontinent and Foakes was player of the series in England's 3-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka in November 2018. Also absent is Jimmy Anderson, who is recovering from a cracked rib sustained during the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town last month, and the England and Wales Cricket Board said the seamer will continue to work on his fitness in readiness for the start of the English season.

The return of Jennings, who also made a hundred in Galle, was signposted previous year when he was sent on an England training camp to Mumbai.

Jofra Archer has already been ruled out of the Sri Lanka series and wasn't considered for the selection.

Foakes had enjoyed a great run in his debut series in Sri Lanka and was the highest run-getter of the series having scored 277 runs in six innings.
