Jeff Bezos splurges, spending $255M on LA properties

Jeff Bezos just bought the most expensive house ever sold in Los Angeles, and he's not going to have to worry about mortgage payments: With an estimated net worth of $131 billion, the Amazon founder could have bought the $165 million mansion nearly 800 times over.

Bezos purchased the property - designed for Warner Bros. president Jack Warner in the 1930s - from media mogul David Geffen, and the price tag eclipses a $150 million residential real estate purchase of a Bel-Air estate a year ago by Lachlan Murdoch.

The property designed for Hollywood film titan Jack Warner in the 1930s was described by Architectural Digest in 1992 as the "archetypal studio mogul's estate", built in Georgian style with expansive terraces and its own nine-hole golf course. This is now the most expensive property deal in Los Angeles. Last year, Lachlan Murdoch, son of Rupert Murdoch, set the record by paying $150 million for the property, as per the Guardian report.

Geffen, the founder of Geffen Records and early investor in Apple, purchased the estate for $47.5 million in 1990, then a record for Los Angeles County.

Along with the Warner Estate, Bezos' umbrella company, Bezos Expeditions, also purchased a plot of land in LA that belonged to the estate of late Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen, according to the Journal. There are also two guest houses on the property.

The Warner Estate was reportedly sold to Jeff Bezos for $165 million.

The real estate empire of Bezos, who has a net worth of $131 billion, includes his Washington DC, mansion where he recently threw a party for state elites including Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Amazon Chief Executive Office Jeff Bezos has purchased a new home that costs $165 million (Rs 1,178 crore). The others include the record US$238 million Citadel founder Ken Griffin plunked down in January 2019 for a NY penthouse at 220 Central Park South.
