Met Éireann is also forecasting significantly unsettled weather from Storm Dennis.

He tweeted: "At this stage there is still some uncertainty, but there is likely to be a period of strong winds through this weekend, and possibly into Monday".

Elsewhere, it will be windy with heavy showers across many parts of England and Wales, with some hail and thunder mixed in.

"This weather front is bringing this heavy rain pushing southwards and eastwards".

On Friday, a yellow alert is warning of rain and snow melt across southern Scotland from 9am to 5pm, that could affect roads and train and bus services.

"So, another hazard to watch out for".

That's according to Irish Weather Channell forecaster Cathal Nolan who is expecting Storm Dennis to impact the country through Saturday and Sunday. "It's going to be windy with the risk of damaging winds and also some heavy rain".

Storm Dennis is the fourth named storm of 2020, and is due to hit the United Kingdom on Saturday afternoon, bringing with it strong wind and the chance of heavy rain.

It also said it had revised its old data and previous assessments of suspected cases. Two cases of the virus have been reported in Russian Federation .

Around 730 properties are believed to have been affected by flooding in recent days.

"Like Ciara, this storm is being pulled in by the jet stream which is amplifying and passing over Britain at around 250mph".

Currently, Met Éireann are forecasting a very wet and very windy start to Saturday as Storm Dennis makes its way to Ireland.

The impacts are not expected to be as severe, however, as Storm Ciara. "Our confidence in the forecast means we have been able to issue severe weather warnings well in advance, giving people time to prepare for potential impacts of the storm".

Storm Dennis is said to bring heavier rain than Storm Ciara.

Thursday and Friday will see spells of heavy rain, strong winds and further snow for parts of the United Kingdom with several severe weather warnings in force, before Storm Dennis brings further very wet and windy weather this weekend.

With already saturated ground, there is a risk of further flooding over the weekend with possible heavy rainfall, said the Met office.

Coastal areas could see gusts of up to 70mph and speeds of 50-to-60mph are expected inland.
