Wayne Pivac confident of Wales turnaround after defeat to Ireland

Wayne Pivac called for patience after he lost his first Wales match, saying it would not take major surgery to reinvigorate their Six Nations challenge.

What brought Wales into this competition was consistency.

A catalogue of calamitous mistakes saw the Grand Slam champions defeated for the first time in the Championship since 2018.

From an Irish perspective, the driving force for this game was more internal than the sight of the famous red shirt. Ireland was neglected in a number of areas against the Scots and was lucky enough to be on the run to victory, which was also a catastrophic mistake by Scotland's captain Stuart Hogg.

Like team-mate Henderson, Ireland captain Johnny Sexton feels his team have a point to prove against the World Cup runners-up having suffered a "right old spanking" in each of last year's meetings. With Gareth Anscombe and Rhys Patchell already out injured, and Owen Williams injuring himself in the warm-up at the Aviva Stadium, that would leave Wales short of options as they prepare to face France in Cardiff a week on Saturday. The late arrival of Storm Ciara in Dublin helped them. They took the territory, and that's what they want.

Ireland conceded a penalty off the first scrum metres from the Welsh line and that was followed by a breakdown turnover, a choke-tackle turnover, and the sacking of a five-metre lineout maul.

Finally, Larmour's wonderful footwork combined with the very poor Welsh defense involved trying to try Ireland in the 20th minute.

"We've got a week off now, a week to regenerate and recuperate, and try and fix what we think needs fixed".

CJ Stander with his daughter Everli and wife Jean-Marie after his man of the match performance. 'But what a lot of the players will be thinking about is the last game that we had in Twickenham and how that definitely didn't go the way we wanted it to go.

The fact that Stockdale had four decent involvements in the opening 10 minutes alone, two of which were on the opposite wing, was really encouraging. We were excellent, on the front foot in defence and attack throughout.

Ten flawless line breaks - Wales only managed two - were proof that Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw regularly found holes in the Welsh midfield.
