Louis defenceman Jay Bouwmeester alert following collapse, Ducks-Blues postponed

A frightening incident occurred tonight in Anaheim where Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester collapsed on the bench.

The Blues and Ducks agreed to postpone the game, which was more than halfway through the first period when the 36-year-old Bouwmeester began to slowly fall after appearing to grab a drink of water. It will be made up at a later date.

The 17-year National Hockey League veteran's teammates immediately called for medical attention after he slumped over on the bench in the first quarter while apparently attempting to get a drink of water.

According to a report from TSN, Jay Bouwmeester was alert and responsive as he was being taken to the hospital.

A catalogue of calamitous mistakes saw the Grand Slam champions defeated for the first time in the Championship since 2018. From an Irish perspective, the driving force for this game was more internal than the sight of the famous red shirt.

The Blues are scheduled to play at the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday. "We will update Jay's condition on Wednesday morning". Players lifted the bench out of the way to give medical personnel easier access.

Bouwmeester was playing in his 1,241st game this season and has been known for his strong skating and conditioning. He has played eight seasons for St. Louis and won the Stanley Cup for the first time last season.

The Blues in April signed Bouwmeester to a $3.25 million, one-year deal for this season.
