'Chaos and autonage' as four children riding bikes killed by vehicle

The children, all who are under the age of 12, were riding their bikes along Bettington Road in Oatlands, near Parramatta, at approximately 8pm on Saturday, February 1, when a Mitsubishi 4WD struck them violently outside the Oatlands Golf Club. Three other children were hospitalised.

It is understood Davidson's 24-year-old passenger also attempted to help some of the children before 18 paramedics arrived. It's extremely arduous for all of the emergency companies, however the loss the households have sustained.

The seriously injured child, a cousin to the dead Abdallah children, was taken to The Children's Hospital in Westmead in a critical condition and is now in a serious but stable condition.

Three of the children killed in Saturday's incident were siblings from the Abdallah family and the fourth was their cousin, Veronique Sakr, aged 11.

Police have been told children were riding bicycles when they were struck by a 4WD.

Abdallah described his son Antony as a "very handsome boy" who loved basketball.

He said Angelina was "my little helper ... anything I needed, she had my back".

Samuel William Davidson, 29, was on Saturday night arrested after allegedly returning a positive result in a roadside breath test and taken for a breath analysis.

He did not appear in court and was refused bail until his next court appearance on April 2.

"They have gone to a better place", he said.

He said all seven children involved were related and were staying at his house. I told them, "Just go for a walk, little walk, stay together".

"They were just walking on the footpath".

Four children died at the scene, police say.

He reiterated that drink-driving and speeding would not be tolerated.

"Tragedies do occur but in my time in policing, this is one of the most tragic involving young children dying", Mr Corboy said.

"It's very, very hard for police, for fire rescue, for paramedics to be confronted with such chaos and carnage".

"Officers from The Hills Police Area Command have established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit".
