Republicans face pressure to allow new witnesses at Trump's impeachment trial

According to the New York Times, a spokesperson for the Justice Department declined to comment on Barr's conversations with Bolton, as a spokesman for the National Security Council.

In the manuscript, he says Trump told him directly that the administration would withhold crucial military aid to embattled Ukraine in an attempt to coerce the Ukrainian government into announcing a bogus investigation of Trump's chief political rival, former-Vice President Joe Biden, as well as into a false accusation promoted by the Russians that the Ukrainians meddled in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump's defense team, like House Republicans during the impeachment inquiry, argued that Trump sought the investigation to uncover corruption.

Rep. Adam Schiff, who leads the House prosecution team, called Bolton's account a test for the senators. "The facts of this case remain the same", said Rep. Elise Stefanik, a Republican from NY, arguing it was House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff's "choice" not to have Bolton testify in the House. He added that Trump's defense team could not explain why Trump took an interest in corruption and Burisma only when Biden became a presidential candidate.

Trump attorney Jane Raskin called Giuliani "a minor player", and a "shiny object".

Elizabeth Warren, a presidential campaigner like Biden but also a Senate juror, told reporters she found Dershowitz's arguments "nonsensical".

But as the defense lawyers laid out their case, the Bolton news hung over the day outside the Senate chamber, and lawmakers were bombarded with questions about it during breaks in the Capitol halls.

But at the center of the impeachment trial is Trump's decision to delay the delivery of almost $400 million to Ukraine over the summer.

So Pakistan have won the series 2-0 and as a result they will hold their top position in the current ICC T20I ranking. Pakistan previous year welcomed back Test cricket after a long gap when Sri Lanka toured the nation in December.

"Devastating timing, because this thing was on the fast track to closing out without witnesses on Friday", Kilmeade said Monday.

Biden himself predicted the attacks, warning voters at a campaign event in Ankeny, Iowa, over the weekend: Turn it on Monday, watch the news.

For the first charge, investigators allege Trump used his office to withhold almost $400m in military aid in exchange for Ukraine's commitment to investigate Former Vice President Joe Biden's son Hunter's involvement with Ukrainian gas company Burisma.

Democrats argue this could allow Republicans have it both ways - allowing them to first vote "yes" on whether to proceed and then vote "no" on actually allowing witnesses or documents.

"Go to court. It really is as simple as that, I don't need to belabor the point", Starr said.

The president's impeachment team remained silent on the news during the second day of their oral arguments in the Senate. "Those of us who lived through the Clinton impeachment understand that in a deep and personal way".

The evening livened up when law professor turned Trump lawyer Alan Dershowitz unloaded his bag of dusty law books at the podium to lecture senators on impeachment and how, in his view, a crime was required.

"Purely non-criminal conduct, including abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, are outside the range of impeachable offenses", Dershowitz said.
