Greta Thunberg brushes off Mnuchin barb she should study economics

Thunberg also turned her attention to U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin who took time Thursday to advise her to attend college and study economics before telling others how to manage the planet's resources.

She spoke to reporters along with four other young climate activists, before they set off through the streets of Davos for the latest weekly "Fridays for Future" campaign that she launched.

"The situation is not being treated like the crisis it is", Thunberg added".

Earlier, Ms Thunberg, the 17-year-old Swedish climate activist who has led a global movement of school strikes calling for urgent environmental action, said that people were now "more generally aware" of the risks of climate change and global warming. They have demanded all companies, banks, institutions, and governments to immediately end ongoing investments in fossil fuel exploration and extraction.

"I'm not going to criticize anyone who's bringing their energy and voice", Ivanka Trump said at the forum's press briefing in Davos, Switzerland, according to Fox News. Then following a brief pause, he said it was 'a joke'.

"If we cared about that, we would not be able to do what we do".

"Before we came here, we had a few demands for this WEF and of course, those demands have been completely ignored. We put ourselves in the spotlight", she added.

When asked if the comment had any effect on her, she matter-of-factly replied: "Of course, no effect".

"They said they had discovered a" discourse change" in the WEF.

To her supporters around the world, Greta has become a role model, not least for her criticism of USA policy, particularly President Donald Trump's decision to pull the country out of the Paris accord to limit global warming. "On the very first day ahead, we have struck for real climate actions".

He said the reason the U.S. left the Paris climate agreement - which calls for blocking global warming at well below 2C, and 1.5C if possible - "was not because we don't support the environment (but because) we thought it wasn't a fair and balanced agreement".

"At present, there's an insane center on climate activists, on individuals".
