CDC Reports 13 Million Flu Cases Thus Far in 2019-20 Season

Residents can take precautions against contracting the virus by frequent hand washing, cleaning commonly touched surfaces, avoiding contact with sick people, and avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth. However, CDC officials said the two types of influenza B are similar, so the vaccine should still be useful. Montana health officials are monitoring the situation, but say they're not "overly-worried". Fitbit shared this particular data with Scripps Research Translational Institute, which used the information to track the flu in realtime on a state-by-state basis.

According to CDC, this year's flu season has led to at least 5.9 million medical visits and 120,000 hospitalizations. Because the flu strain changes from year to year, it's important to get a flu shot every season, according to Page. However, flu activity remains high, officials said, and the number of flu-related hospitalizations and deaths indicates we haven't yet reached the peak of this year's flu season.

And while 172.2 million doses of the flu vaccine have already been distributed, early analysis of cases reported in children in Louisiana suggests that the strain in the shot does not match the subgroup of influenza B now circulating.

Last season, the flu caused between 37.4 million and 42.9 million illnesses and between 36,400 and 61,200 deaths, according to preliminary data from the CDC. "Influenza-B tends to be a little more severe in children especially".

The new LP is the band's first studio outing since 2013's Lightning Bolt , which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Indeed, the new single has a tinge of new wave and hints of the Talking Heads.

The vaccination reduces the number of people in the hospital, the number of deaths, the amount of intensive care admissions and a patient's overall duration at the hospital, according to Katrichis. "It has 2 strains of B, whereas the trivalent vaccine only has 1 strain". Vomiting and diarrhea are more common in children.

"There will be the rare person who gets two flu infections in the same season - one with B and one with H1N1", Dr. William Schaffner told Healthline.

Anderson also encourages people to wash frequently, clean and sanitize work areas when possible, stay home when you're sick and please don't cough and sneeze on others. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub. Throw tissues in the trash.
