Missouri Health Department urges health care providers to monitor for coronavirus symptoms

A traveler arrives Los Angeles Airport was rushed to a hospital for an examination early Thursday amid fears of an outbreak of deadly coronavirus.

There is much more to learn about the transmissibility, severity, and other features associated with this novel coronavirus, and investigations are ongoing in China and at least five other countries.

The flight landed at LAX at approximately 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and was greeted by firefighters and Los Angeles police.

Although Texas and CDC officials did not provide any identifying information about the patient, Texas A&M University said it had been notified by local health officials that the patient was a student there.

This would not be the initial validated instance in the United States, though: that would certainly be the male in Washington state that got the infection after going back to the United States from the area around Wuhan, China, where the episode started.

Even with no reported cases in Missouri, the state health department is urging health care providers to monitor patients for symptoms of the coronavirus. The CDC announced that it would begin monitoring travelers at Chicago O'Hare and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta worldwide airports starting this week.

The World Health Organization has yet to declare the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak as a global health emergency after a Wednesday meeting, despite the entire city of Wuhan going under quarantine to contain the spread of the coronavirus. "We refer you to CDC for additional information", the airport said.

The Centers for Disease Control added that, provided it is cold and flu season, more individuals can show similar symptoms to the publication coronavirus but might not always be infected, Reuters reported.

The possible case came after health officers in Los Angeles County said there were no reported coronavirus cases in L.A. county.

Los Angeles officials said, so far, there have been no local cases of the China-based coronavirus.

"Travelers who have visited Wuhan City who are not ill upon their arrival to the LA County are advised to contact a healthcare provider and seek care if they become ill while here".

If the patient, who has not been publicly identified, tests positive for coronavirus it would mark the second known US case of the illness, which has already sickened an estimated 650 people worldwide.

People traveling into the county who displayed symptoms, including having a fever or respiratory illness, would be screened, tested, and cared for, Ferrer's office said. The passenger, who was traveling with family members, will undergo a medical assessment, authorities said.
