Leonard scores 36 to lead Clippers past Mavericks

The center of Dwight Powell in Dallas has sustained what the Mavericks fear as a "serious" injury to his right Achilles tendon in a loss of 110-107 for the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night.

Tim Hardaway Jr. added 13 points, and Kristaps Porzingis - who had missed their previous 10 games with soreness in his right knee - dropped 10 points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes.

Porzingis may relate to Powell, because he came back this year after missing a year and a half with a torn ACL. He scored 24 points in the second half to help rally the Mavericks after they trailed by double digits from late in the second quarter through most of the third. His three from the left wing to give Los Angeles a 100-98 lead with 2:48 to play. Montrezl Harrell added two free throws, then Shamet sank another 3 from straight-on to put the Clippers up by seven. JaMychal Green missed two free throws, but then Doncic missed two - the second intentionally - and Leonard sealed it with two free throws.

After Powell's retirement, Dallas received 16 valuable minutes from former clipper Boban Marjanovic, who had 12 points and seven rebounds.

The 28-year-old Powell went down with a non-contact injury with 2:57 left in the first quarter Tuesday night.

United States imposes visa rules for pregnant women on 'birth tourism'
The US joins countries like the UK, Germany, France, New Zealand, and Australia in introducing laws to curb "birth tourism ". But they would still have to decide whether a visa applicant would be coming to the United States only to give birth.

Powell drove to the basket and appeared to lose his footing as he took off, immediately going down in pain as play continued. He's great for the locker room.

Following his MRI, the team announced on Wednesday that everyone's worst fears had been confirmed: Powell ruptured his Achilles.

Powell scored an average of nearly 10 points per game in 39 games before injury.

Powell has averaged 9.6 points and 5.7 rebounds so far this season for the Mavericks, his sixth in the league and his first as a true starter.
