Wuhan on Lockdown As 17 Dead, 571 Infected With Coronavirus

Coronaviruses is a term applied to a variety of viruses that include the common cold and more severe illnesses such as SARS, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, and MERS, Middle East respiratory syndrome.

According to the study, there is a possibility that these snakes were sold in the Wuhan Huanan Wholesale Seafood Market that could have then transferred the virus to humans.

According to the ministry, a Chinese national has tested positive for the Wuhan virus in Singapore. Analysts have predicted that the reported cases will continue to multiply. The city will also close its airport and high-speed rail stations.

The US-based patient, a man in his 30s who is originally from Wuhan but who lives near Seattle, is resting comfortably at a medical centre and should return home in the "near future", a medical officer said.

An app that tasks users with spreading a deadly virus around the world has skyrocketed in popularity in China amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"The World Health Organization, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living are actively monitoring the situation", the provincial Health Department said in a statement Wednesday. There have been 22 cases confirmed in the city so far.

AFP reported that, aside from major cities in China, the virus has also been detected in Thailand, Japan and South Korea as well as the United States.

The presence of a super spreader in Wuhan indicates that the virus can spread with some ease, said Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist and professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.

The phone costs an eye-watering $1,500, or $62.49 per month for 24 months on a payment plan with Verizon Wireless. In fact, starting February 6, the Razr should even be available in stores, in some limited quantities.

Some experts believe the new virus is not as risky as previous coronaviruses such as SARS and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), which has killed more than 700 people since 2012.

"We were looking at a local outbreak [on] December 31, which turned into more of a domestic outbreak affecting other parts of mainland China, which turned into an outbreak involving worldwide destinations in the region, which has now turned into an outbreak involving intercontinental spread", said Khan. "So they recognise that".

But all of these links have been shut down indefinitely as part of the travel ban: even local bus and subway services within the city are being suspended. "At this point of time, it's not possible to determine all these routes", officials said, adding that the source of the virus is still unknown, potentially limiting containment efforts.

Chinese authorities are still investigating the origins of the virus, though they confirmed the outbreak began at a market in Wuhan with illegal wildlife transactions and that it can spread from one person to another via respiratory transmission.

In Taipei, China Airlines announced it would suspend flights to Wuhan until Feb 29.

A growing number of Chinese-listed companies, from biotech firms, drugmakers, mask producers to thermometer makers, say they are actively participating in a government-led war on the coronavirus.

From Dubai to Vietnam, airports have stepped up screening of passengers from China to try to identify and isolate any infected people.

Britain joined other countries including Australia in advising citizens against all but essential travel to Wuhan.
