"The decision is one I take extremely seriously and one I am only prepared to make with appropriate consideration of all the evidence", World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

"This is an evolving and complex situation", said Tedros, as he is known.

For now, the Center for Disease Control has declared the immediate health risk the virus poses to the American public to be low.

The virus has since fanned out and the tallies are changing rapidly.

On Tuesday, U.S. health officials confirmed the first case to have reached the country-a man who had recently travelled to the Wuhan region of China, where cases have been most common.

In the dead of night, Chinese authorities announced the suspension of all transport from Wuhan from 10:00am local time, effectively locking down the city. "We think it is going to be handled very well", he said at Davos in Switzerland.

Doctor Nathalie MacDermott of King's College London said it is likely the virus can spread through the air through sneezing or coughing.

In the last few days, the number of people who died due to the havoc of China Coronavirus has increased to 6 so far.

It's hard to imagine a bigger challenge for public health workers in China and, as cases spread, around the world. More than 470 cases and 17 deaths have been reported so far in China, and additional infections have now been documented in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand and South Korea, reports Roni Carin Rabin for the New York Times.

A mysterious respiratory virus that has infected hundreds in China has now officially made landfall in the United States, bringing the total number of countries afflicted by the newly described Wuhan coronavirus up to at least six.

However, they are stepping up messaging and screening at airports, and B.C.'s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says quarantine officers are available at Vancouver International Airport to respond to any sick passengers.

Pompeo looks forward to meeting with Venezuela's Guaido in Colombia
Pompeo told reporters earlier on Sunday that he hoped Guaido would make the trip and he looked forward to meeting him. Trump is being fed "fake reports", Maduro told the Post .

Queensland Health confirmed on Wednesday a Brisbane man who was showing symptoms of the virus has not been infected.

North Korea has closed its border to foreign travelers, according to tour operators. That travel rush is expected to spread the disease more widely.

The WHO said Monday it believed an animal source was the "primary source" of the outbreak, and Wuhan authorities identified a seafood market as the centre of the epidemic.

Earlier this week, China confirmed that human-to-human transmission of the virus had taken place.

They have also advised people to not travel to Wuhan and also asked Wuhan residents to remain in the city.

They said there is still a lot to learn about the new virus, but Chinese health officials have said there is evidence it can be transmitted from person to person.

The seafood market in Wuhan was closed January 1, the day after Chinese health officials reported to the WHO a unusual spike in pneumonia cases in the city.

"We are still in the process of learning more about this disease", said Gao Fu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control said at the same news conference.

Chinese health officials have confirmed it has spread between humans, warning that it may mutate to become even deadlier.

The UK's expected measures do not appear to include a medical screening of passengers at the airport for signs of the virus, as the UK did in 2014 following the Ebola outbreak.

There are now two active PHEICs: the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the continued transmission of polio.
