Patrick Stewart invites Whoopi to return to 'Star Trek'

The audience and other "View" co-hosts all immediately went wild as Goldberg appeared shocked, giving Stewart a hug and telling him, "Yes".

"I'm here with a formal invitation".

'You know, this was one of the great experiences of my - I've said this on the show before - but Star Trek was one of the great experiences from the beginning to the end.

"I'm so glad to hear that".

Of course Picard aims to satisfy Trek fans who can't wait to see Jean-Luc and his pals together again, but "we want to be really, really gratifying to someone who's seen every episode [of TNG], and to someone who has never seen a one", executive producer Akiva Goldsman cautions. "I had the best, best, best time; best time ever". It's unclear if by "one more time" he meant one appearance or one season, or if it was a general statement.

He was also used as a wide receiver in his first two years with the Cougars before returning to quarterback full time. King divided the time between the recipient and the defender in 2016 and 2017, making 58 catches in three touchdowns.

Stewart helps sell the story's indecision and bagginess - haunted by memories of career-ending catastrophe, his elder Picard is, if not content in isolation, then unsure he deserves anything besides it.

Per the official Star Trek wiki, "Guinan was an enigmatic bartender who ran Ten Forward, the lounge aboard the USS Enterprise-D". Goldberg's Guinan and Stewart's Picard were close friends on TNG, and that friendship carried over to reality as well.

Untangling aspects of her identity, with the help of an expert doctor (Alison Pill), occurs relatively fleetly; getting Picard out of his retirement vineyard villa into the heart of the action occurs only after significant stutter-stepping of the plot. Goldberg also made cameos as Guinan in the films Star Trek Generations (1994) and Star Trek Nemesis (2002). That can be one of the excitements down the road.

Picard, which premiers on January 23, 2020, on CBS All Access, brings back Brent Spiner as Data, Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine, Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh, Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi.
