French Tennis Player Elliot Benchetrit Scolded For Ball-Girl Banana Request

Earlier this week, the ongoing Australian Open witnessed a weird incident as French tennis player Elliot Benchetrit got rebuked by the umpire for asking a ball girl to peel a banana for him during a qualification match.

The Australian Open qualifier branded "disgusting" for asking a ball-girl to peel his banana was told by the umpire: "She's not your slave".

When the ball girl offered him the snack, he indicated he couldn't peel it due to the plasters on his fingers and asked her to do so, CNN reports.

Benchetrit, who is from France, took hold of the banana before attempting to open it with his teeth before giving up and returning to the match.

"Benchetrit and Blom then traded farther words, although it was uncertain what was stated, before Benchetrit seemed to inform Blom to" prevent" several times, prior to returning to the courtroom.

I sympathise with pals who've come to Half-Life late and bounced off the first. Valve's blog post has links for the lot.

But, according to Australia's Channel 9 "Today Show", the umpire told him "it wasn't her job" and that he should "do it himself". He looked shocked when told to do it himself.

However, Benchetrit has now explained his side of the story, saying he had already asked the ball girl to peel one banana for him at the start of the match with no sign of an uproar. 229 handed a banana to a ball girl before John Blom stepped in. Like out of all things to ask a ball kid: Can you please peel my banana? I find it awful.

"The bananas are very hard to peel here because they don't have a stem".

I could not believe that the referee said that and I think it's wonderful how this situation got out of control on social media without people knowing what really happened in court.

Benchetrit eventually went on to clinch a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Popko to set up a first-round clash of the Australian Open against Japanese tennis player Yuichi Sugita.
