Cardiff, Nantes pay tribute to Emiliano Sala year on after player's death

"The Sala family will mark the anniversary of Emiliano's untimely death in private and silent contemplation of their loss", said a statement from lawyer Daniel Machover, who works with the family.

The footballer's body was recovered from the wreckage, but that of pilot David Ibbotson - from Crowle, North Lincolnshire - has still not been found.

"Consequently, in view of the pre-inquiry review hearing of March 16, 2020, it is imperative that the coroner receive before February 14, 2020 (and then quickly share with the family) the update required by the coroner of all investigative bodies - the police, the CAA and the AAIB, "added the statement, referring to the Civil Aviation Authority of the United Kingdom as well as to the Air Accident Investigation Department".

Cardiff past year pledged to ban the use of such flights and called for all Premier League sides to agree regulations forcing them to do the same, but The Telegraph has been told there has been no such rule change.

Sala's mother, Mercedes Taffarel, said the pain of her son's death would "never go away" and his family have called for investigators to "speed up" their work so a full inquest can be held as soon as possible.

Sala's father Horacio died three months after his son, suffering a heart attack at his home in the small rural town of Progreso, Argentina.

However, he said before his death that all parties involved in the transfer - including clubs and agents - should have made more efforts to ensure his son's welfare.

The law on illegal flights also remains unaltered, with the Government revealing past year, in a letter seen by The Telegraph, that its planned response to the Sala crash was "further work to educate consumers about the rules, and potential risks, relating to such flights".

The International Space Station is launching into the LEGO universe
Since then, the station has hosted a continuous human presence despite a few close calls that nearly left it vacant for a period. It is supposed to hit stores February 1 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of people' presence aboard the space station.

Meanwhile, Cardiff invited fans to greet Sala and Ibbotson.

Cardiff City players, management and fans paid tribute to Emiliano Sala on Tuesday at a memorial service at St David's Cathedral in Cardiff on the first anniversary of the player's death.

The statue was the place where Cardiff fans laid flowers, scarves and shirts in memory of Sala past year.

The Welsh club revealed Sala two days before his death, but claimed that he was not responsible for the full £ 15m since the 28-year-old was not officially her player when he died. Last year, Cardiff City filed a court appeal seeking to overturn a Federation Internationale de Football Association order it must pay Nantes a €6 million first payment for Sala. Cardiff City have appealed the ruling.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it expects to hold a hearing later in this year, though a decision is not expected before June 2020.

Profits from the jerseys will be donated to the two Argentinian clubs Sala played for as a child, Nantes said.

Nantes marked the anniversary of the incident by confirming the creation of a special strip in tribute to their former striker, with the kit set to be worn on Sunday against Bordeaux, Sala's first club in France.
