Trump Approval Among Farmers Hits Record High at 83%

When Trump spoke to the American Farm Bureau Federation's convention previous year, he urged farmers to continue supporting him even as they suffered financially in the fallout from his trade war with China and a partial shutdown of the federal government. But the Senate's upcoming impeachment trial wasn't far from his mind. With China agreeing to buy 32 billion USA dollars' farm products over the next two years, American farmers will reap much bigger profits than before.

"China respects us now", Mr Trump said.

On Thursday, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved a new North American trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, known as the USMCA, that would replace the North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA.

The implementation of the deal would not only benefit the US and China, but it would also contribute "to the harmonious development and expansion of world trade and providing a catalyst to broader global cooperation", as the preamble of the deal states.

These exports consist of 777 billion USA dollars of manufactured goods (38.8 percent), 320 billion US dollars of agricultural products (16 percent), 524 billion USA dollars of energy products (26.2 percent), and 379 US dollars of services products (18.9 percent) which includes charges for the use of IP, business travel and tourism, financial services and insurance, cloud and related services and other services.

President Trump cheered the landmark United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and China trade deals and their potential benefits to American farmers during a speech Sunday evening in Austin, Texas.

Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi condemned the "cowardly and terrorist" attack, according to the official Saba news agency. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis by the UN .

Analysts have said a number of issues remain unresolved.

Caught in the middle of Trump's trade war with China that's been ongoing since 2018 are US farmers.

"Trump's trade wars, broken promises, and economic policies have failed farmers, time and time again".

"Trump needs the rural vote to keep the same states he won in 2016 in his win column come November", Wiesemeyer said. "You never even thought of giving up and we got it done".

It's a group whose support Trump is relying on in his reelection bid, after recently dispensing billions of dollars in aid to farmers.

The House passed the U.S. -Mexico-Canada deal in December. But with tariffs still in place on two-thirds of more than US$500 billion (S$673.58 billion) worth of imports from China, US consumers and businesses will be left to foot the bill.
