Oman's health ministry issues statement on New Coronavirus outbreak in China

Three new coronavirus-related pneumonia cases were reported outside Wuhan, two in Beijing and one in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, said local health authorities.

The virus belongs to the same family as SARS, and it can cause fever, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Initially, authorities in Wuhan appeared to suggest new infections had stopped after the closure of the Huanan Seafood Market.

The Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said in a statement that 136 cases of coronavirus emerged in the city on January 18 and January 19.

The WHO said on Sunday that "an animal source seems the most likely primary source of this novel coronavirus outbreak, with some limited human-to-human transmission occurring between close contacts".

China's Global Times, published by the ruling Communist Party's official People's Daily newspaper, said in an editorial the government needs to disclose all information and not repeat the mistakes made with SARS. The holiday involves massive internal travel, a fact that could make watching for respiratory infections in people who have been to Wuhan an increasingly ineffective way to monitor for spread of the virus.

China first reported the outbreak to the World Health Organization on December 31. Outside China, one case has been confirmed in Japan and two in Thailand.

Mr Ghimire said that the incessant rainfall in the region has made it hard to obtain information about the missing foreigners. Five others who were also part of the group have been rescued after they took shelter in a nearby lodge.

Essential airports within the United States and Asia hold elevated screenings of passengers coming in who hold traveled to the metropolis. A TV show cited screenshots of chats between Chinese physicians revealing a few individuals are dying from respiratory illnesses every day at one hospital but medical teams were not allowed to test whether they had died from the new strain of pneumonia.

A previous version of this article misstated when Beijing authorities reported its cases of infection.

The new virus belongs to the same family of coronaviruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which killed almost 800 people globally during a 2002-2003 outbreak and also originated from China.

The KCDC said an epidemiological investigation is underway, and that a response center has been launched to prevent the spread of the virus.

Others strains are more severe, including the deadly SARS, which killed 700 people when it broke out in China during 2002-2003. Authorities also reported an additional death tied to the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to three.

"The case of SARS is similar to the case in Wuhan and so yeah I'm quite anxious".
