Lampard admits Chelsea must sign striker after defeat at Newcastle

Bringing in a striker this month, according to Steve Bruce, is akin to buying a puppy for Christmas.

Isaac Hayden snatched a last-gasp victor for Newcastle after Chelsea had failed to make their dominance count in a dramatic defeat - their first in four games. "I'm not always massive on stats but the feel of the game was domination", the Chelsea boss Sky Sports. "The feel of the game was domination".

Despite being the second-best team all game, the Magpies struck at the death to snatch a very vital win through Issac Hayden, and head coach Steve Bruce and his side surely deserve some credit now.

"I think they gave everything and I don't think I can complain about that too much at all".

Chelsea's hopes for a top four finish took another stumble as the Blues succumbed to a last minute victor at the hands of Newcastle United at St James' Park. "They defended with everything but we absolutely controlled it".

Asked if Chelsea can address their attacking issues in the transfer market, Lampard replied: "We'll see.

We have a lot of talent in this team, but sticking the ball in the back of the net is a huge thing and if we want to do it as a club going forward, this season and next season going forward and we are controlling games as we are, then we have to score goals".

Lampard added: "We know we have problems at the top of the pitch in terms of we don't get enough goals".

"We need to be clinical". "We've chipped in with some goals from midfield and we have people who can arrive from midfield, but the brutal reality is that we need more goals from the front line". We finish and we finish and sometimes you need that killer instinct in front of goal. "We need to score more goals from front-line areas to get where we need to be".
