One-armed Canadian amateur Laurent Hurtubise sinks sensational hole-in-one

"That was the coolest experience I've had on the golf course", Merritt told PGATour.com.

The beaming amateur celebrated the achievement by throwing his hat into the air and was met by cheers as he walked down the course to pick his ball out of the hole, with the video being shared by the PGA Tour.

Fowler picked up shots at 11 and 13 before a bogey at the par-four 14th, but he managed another birdie at the last. "You're just playing and sometimes you get over a golf ball and it's nice to have the feeling of knowing where it's going". "Bogey nearly feels like you're giving two shots back". Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., (68) is 9-under, Roger Sloan of Merritt, B.C., (71) is 7-under, David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., (68) is 5-under while Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., (69) is 4-under.

Landry overcame a bogey on the eighth to storm home with six birdies on the back nine while Scheffler was steady from the outset as he shot a six-under 66.

"I wish I could do more of that, to be honest", he said.

Fowler mixed seven birdies with a single spot at La Quinta Country Club, one of the three fields that were used at the event, to keep in touch with the first leaders Grayson Murray and Zac Blair.

While Fowler played plenty of golf in the desert in his youth, he hasn't played much on the Stadium Course at PGA West.

Bill Haas, who won the tournament in 2010 and 2015, shot a second straight 68 and is tied for 26th, defending champion Adam Long is tied for 68th after a 70 and tournament host Phil Mickelson, the 2002 and 2004 victor, needs a big third round to make the 54-hole cut after a 72 on the Nicklaus Course left him in a tie for 110th.

The 224th-ranked player in the world got hot on his back nine with birdies on Nos. "I hit it really nicely yesterday". Sometimes emotionally and mentally that can be tough, but I'm happy with that round today. "I hit it well again and I was able to make some putts and just get some momentum".

Adam Long, last year's victor when the tournament was called the Desert Classic, is back at five under and tied for 68th.
