'Watchmen' Season 2 Is Almost Definitely Not Happening; HBO Exec Explains Why

Similarly, given the ire of the graphic novel's creator, Alan Moore, at any sequels to his work, it is perhaps best that the series remain at a single, profoundly good season - even if it will leave fans of the show clamouring for more. "We're very proud of Watchmen, but what I'm most interested in what Damon wants to do". This comes via USA Today, and it is a change of tune from what the man said last month following the wrap of the series.

Based on recent comment though by Casey Bloys, Programming Chief for HBO, HBO doesn't want to pursue the project further without Lindelöf himself. "It is so much from his brain - obviously I know there was the underlying IP - but the reinvention and the world is so much from his brain that it's hard to imagine somebody else doing it". Bloys had initially said that further Watchmen episodes were "really in Damon's thinking about what he wants to do". However its future looks bleak since showrunner Damon Lindelof isn't interested in pursuing a second season. Maybe that idea is going to come from someone else. He explained, "I think Damon did a brilliant job. There is no guarantee of if and when that'll happen". Lindelof told the outlet that with the first season of Watchmen, he told the story he wants to tell but has given his blessing to the network if they were interested in another installment with a different writer and producer. What's sad here is that USA Today jumped to a conclusion that wasn't there and caused a lot of turmoil doing so.

Watchmen was one of the best-reviewed new shows of 2019, but fans hoping to get more episodes will be disappointed to find out that a second season will nearly definitely not happen.

Still, Lindelof left the door open at the time to a possible second season, saying that if the right idea struck him then "I would definitely be inclined to pursue it".
