Saints' former player, Steve Gleason, was awarded the Congress Gold Medal

After his ALS medical diagnosis, Gleason began the Team Gleason structure to back up for those with the illness as well as to elevate recognition while trying to discover a remedy, according to the Stephen Michael Gleason Congressional Gold Medal Act. Many others with ALS did not until Gleason challenged Congress to pass a bill that increased access to the technology. "I am honored and accept the Congressional Gold Medal for all the families who have been diagnosed with ALS, as well as anyone struggling to overcome life's inevitable adversities". Gleason worked with Microsoft in 2015 to develop technology that allows people who are paralyzed to control their wheelchairs with their eyes.In December, when he learned that he was to receive the Congressional Gold Medal, he said he and his family have come a long way since his initial diagnoses in 2011."In many ways, I feel I've conquered ALS".

Brees, once a teammate from Gleason, made an emotional speech in honor of Gleason.

"You bring luster to this award and pride to our nation", she said.

Team Gleason, Gleason's foundation, has provided nearly $10 million in technology, equipment, care service and adventures to people living with ALS and also works to raise awareness of the disease and creating conversations aimed at finding solutions and an end to ALS.

It came three days since alarms last sounded in Nahal Oz, apparently due to heavy machine gun fire from the coastal enclave. In November, Israel killed a senior leader of Islamic Jihad, which is a Hamas-aligned group in Gaza.

"Steve Gleason has shown tremendous courage and resolve in the face of ALS", Cassidy told 4WWL News in New Orleans.

This honor couldn't have been bestowed upon a better individual and it's very well deserved. Now, he'll be recognized at a ceremony on Capitol Hill after almost a decade of those efforts, as the latest recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal. The truth is, that we all experience pain in our lives.

Gleason played in 83 games for New Orleans between the 2000 and 2006 seasons, emerging as a special teams leader and blocking four punts.
