The Association of National Advertisers and the American Association of Advertising Agencies wrote an open letter calling out Google following its decision to remove third-party trackers from its popular Chrome browser by 2022.

"Users demand more privacy - including transparency, choice and control over how their data is used - and it is clear that the web ecosystem must evolve to meet these increasing demands", said Chrome engineering director Justin Schuh in the post Tuesday.

Google said its new policy would be rolled out over two years.

And there are anxieties that Google might utilize its dimension as well as prominence to maintain gathering information also without cookies as well as suppress competitors in the procedure.

For almost three decades, cookies placed by relatively unknown companies on almost every website have fueled advertising on the internet. Google announced that it will slowly phase out support for Chrome apps on all operating systems until they will completely stop working in June 2022 for all users. Third-party cookies are nearly always about advertising or tracking, and you have little or no control over what companies do with that data.

But cookies also have given obscure software vendors, whose technology is used by website operators, a broad window into which webpages a user is visiting. "It is yet another example of Google diminishing ad rivals' access to data for the stated objective of protecting users' privacy", said Dina Srinivasan, a lawyer focused on competition issues. Browser fingerprints can be evaded preventively by using browser add-ons such as Privacy Badger or NoScript, which are created to prevent invisible crawlers from entering your machine.

Google claims that this change will not impact support for Chrome Extensions. Most likely, many of us aren't using the real Chrome Apps at all, even if we use web apps most of the time. For example, Google reportedly plans to track conversions by using an API that will send the necessary data from the browser to the advertiser requesting it without sharing any personal data.

"The fundamentals of what we do aren't broken, but the mechanism we use is being taken away, so we need to reimagine the industry and embrace the change, as it offers a huge opportunity to shape a better advertising ecosystem".
