Fitbit announces blood oxygen monitoring before Apple Watch

Fitbit follows other wearables companies such as Garmin and Withings who already offers this feature to its users, while the worldwide market leader in wearables, Apple, remains behind in this space and does not support the capability.

Now specific FitBit devices are said to be able to take this oxygen reading from their wearables in the U.S. The results will then show up in a graph, called a SpO2 graph, and is created to be used in conjunction with sleep measurements that Fitbit can already perform.

Fitbit is enabling a blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring feature on its Versa and Ionic smartwatches and Charge 3 wearables. Now, users can view a graph of the variations in their oxygen saturation over the entire day and night.

With this great idea in mind, it is necessary to add that the Fitbit app notes that the SpO2 levels are only estimated.

The drastic measure is a result of the company's products being "increasingly purchased through e-commerce". In 2016, the Telegram noted that Bose used 10,500 employees in North America, Europe , and Asia.


Fitbit's blood oxygen saturation data is merely an estimate, but even that can be helpful for tracking your health.

And while the feature could be a focal point of this year's annual watchOS update, Fitbit has gotten a jump on Apple. This possibility of wearable devices the brand appeared even faster than in the case of the Apple Watch. That changes with an update that has arrived for certain Fitbit fitness wearables. We would expect the launch of the blood oxygen level tracking on Apple smartwatches by the end 2020.

Blood oxygen monitoring is a feature found in some consumer gadgets, such as select smartphones.

Such features include the ability to take an electrocardiogram, detect when the wearer has taken a hard fall, and notify users if they're being exposed to high sound levels for prolonged periods of time. In terms of percentage, between 95% to 100% of blood oxygen level is considered to be normal, with anything below it counted to be low and indicating potential chances of serious health risks that may require immediate attention.
