All-Star weekend to include Canada-USA women's 3-on-3 event

2020 NHL-All Star weekend will feature a 3v3 match between the best American and Canadian hockey players, according to a report from Emily Kaplan of ESPN. Kaplan adds that the league will make an announcement with the details on how the scrimmage will work and some new elements for the skills competition. In 2019, the USA's team Brianna Decker and Kendall Coyne Schofield and from Canada Renata fast and Rebecca Johnston were invited to demonstrate skills competitions before the National Hockey League players competition When Nathan MacKinnon was unable to participate in the fastest skater event, he requested that Coyne Schofield take his place. The all-star weekend lasts nearly two weeks.

This will be the third straight year the NHL invites women's hockey players to participate during the All-Star weekend. She beat Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller's time in the Fastest Skater contest.

The All-Star festivities in St. Louis later this month will reportedly have a women's U.S. vs.

Women have participated in the last two NHL All-Star weekends.

The addition of a women's 3-on-3 game is seen as the latest step in the league's bid to promote women's hockey. The league asked Team USA Olympians to demonstrate drills for the skills competition in 2018, when the event was held in Tampa, Fla.

Players will be selected from Professional Hockey Players Association, a group players outside the NWHL this season in hopes of building a more sustainable professional women's league. The All-Star game, featuring a series of 3-on-3 games, is January 25, a day after the skills competition.

The PWHPA has since launched a series of barnstorming tours around North America, its most recent stop in Toronto last weekend.

The 3-on-3 scrimmage will feature some of the world's highest-profile players. The NWHL is in the middle of its fifth season, with teams made up of patchwork rosters.

A large majority - if not all - of the players taking part in the NHL All-Star three-on-three game will be PWHPA members.
