Whakaari/White Island: Another dies in hospital, death toll at 18

They are Stephanie Browitt and Lisa Dallow, 48, of Adelaide. The majority of those who died - and whose names have been released - were from Australia.

"We are sad to inform that one of the three patients The Alfred received from the volcano tragedy has passed away", the hospital said in a statement.

"Police can confirm a further person died in an Australian hospital last night as a result of injuries suffered in the Whakaari/White Island eruption", NZ deputy police commissioner John Tims said.

Two others are still missing since the incident and presumed dead.

Krystal had turned 21 shortly before the Browitt family went on a cruise on the liner Ovation of the Seas.

Maria Browitt, the wife and mother of the victims, had remained on a ship while her family took a day trip to the island.

The 33-year-old Mirza is playing at her first tournament since the China Open in October 2017 and is using a protected ranking. The Hobart International will give Sania the competitive vibe necessary for the upcoming Australian Open too.

The death toll stands at 18, following a death in an Australian hospital. The hospital would not say which of the women was critical.

There were 47 people, mostly tourists, on or near the White Island volcano when it erupted on December 9.

More than a month since the deadly Whakaari/White Island volcano eruption, GeoNet is resuming the island camera feed to its website.
