Pastrnak hat trick helps Bruins hold off Jets 5-4

Pastrnak hat trick helps Bruins hold off Jets 5-4

And with the third goal, Pastrnak record his seventh hat trick since the start of the 2016-17 season, which trials only Ovechkin and his nine hat tricks for the most in the league over that span.

This was a win that required the Bruins to give their goaltender a lift, too, as Halak surrendered four goals on 16 shots before he buckled down and stopped the final five shots thrown his way to preserve a victory for the B's.

The Bruins used a barrage of different scorers to snap a three-game losing streak at Nashville earlier this week. The Jets have the NHL's 13th-best power play, now sitting with a 20.31 percent and 26 power-play goals. "I got backdoored good in that Columbus game". "Listen, we didn't get the start we wanted".

The Canucks lost their second in a row after winning seven straight, and have given up 14 goals in those two losses. McAvoy (0-16-16 in 43 games) played almost half the game (28 minutes, 53 seconds), landed five hits and blocked four shots.

In a battle of the backup goalies, neither stole the show, although Maurice refused to pin anything on Laurent Brossoit, who was markedly better than Halak.

The Bruins left Rask out to dry for the most part.

The Bruins edged in front 3-2 with just over a minute to play in the second when DeBrusk forced a turnover near center ice, sped ahead on a breakaway and pushed his shot into to the top of the net. But Marchand drew a trip on Brock Nelson just 40 seconds into the 3-on-3 overtime session, providing the Bruins with one more chance.

The effort paid off with Jake DeBrusk lighting the lamp for the third time in two games to even things up at 8:33 of the second. The Jets then took a 2-1 lead with 23 seconds left in their ensuing power play on Copp's tip-in of Josh Morrissey's hard shot from the high slot.

The Isles weren't able to extend their lead though and exited the first period up 1-0.

The goal came after Winnipeg, which entered with a league-worst 73 percent penalty-kill percentage, held during a Bruins power play following Luca Sbisa's penalty for tripping Brad Marchand.

Connor scored Winnipeg's first goal with a nice piece of stickhandling through defenceman Torey Krug. They only had two chances to surpass that mark and failed on their first attempt during regulation time.

Connor got free on a two-on-one break up the left side, cut inside defender Krug and flicked a backhanded shot past Halak for his 22nd goal of the season to give the Jets a 1-0 lead.

The Bruins posted 2:46 after Joakim Nordstrom broke away from a scrum behind the net and fed Pastrnak for his 33rd goal of the season at the top of the slot. Chara, of course, is just a few weeks removed from an additional jaw procedure.

"Pasta ends some shifts with the other lines and ends with scoring", said Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy. "And after that, I thought we played a lot better and created more chances, and you know, we kept it simple and went to the net".
