Democratic debate allows one more jab before Iowa caucuses

Democratic debate allows one more jab before Iowa caucuses

What I said this evening This is that Donald Trump is a sexist, a racist and a liar who would arm whatever he could, "said Sanders".

The public breakdown began with the revelation on Sunday, as first reported by Politico, that some Sanders' volunteers had been instructed to tell voters leaning toward Warren that her appeal was limited to "highly educated, more affluent people". The squabble between the two progressives could boost former vice president Joe Biden or former South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg, who are also polling in the top four in the crucial state.

The day's developments amounted to a freaky twist at a crucial moment in the campaign, and left progressives deeply anxious the fight between Warren and Sanders would hurt them both in a tight presidential primary.

"I have no interest in discussing this private meeting any further because Bernie and I have far more in common than our differences on punditry", Warren continued. And on the eve of the party's first primary, voters are torn over a slate of high-profile candidates - ranging from a self-avowed socialist to a billionaire Wall Street baron - who represent the broad spectrum of change, ideologically and symbolically, that is today's deeply divided Democratic Party.

Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. "No one is gonna trash Elizabeth Warren", Sanders had said.

"Among the topics that came up was what would happen if Democrats nominated a female candidate".

But the report cites four anonymous sources who say Sanders told Warren, after she made her case for her candidacy for the Democratic nomination, that he did not believe a woman could win the election. When Warren reportedly pointed out that she would be a strong candidate due to her economic prowess and ability to gain support from female voters, Sanders replied that the odds are against women.

"It is appalling that after 18 years Joe Biden still refuses to admit he was dead wrong on the Iraq War, the worst foreign policy blunder in modern American history", Sanders senior advisor Jeff Weaver said in a statement. After all, Hillary Clinton defeated Donald Trump by 3 million votes in 2016.

The pair are preparing to take part in a televised Democratic debate in Iowa on Tuesday.

The videos , which were posted by the New York-based Center for Human Rights in Iran on Sunday, could not be immediately verified. Riot police in black uniforms and helmets gathered earlier Sunday in Vali-e Asr Square, at Tehran University and other landmarks.

"People have to decide do they want originals or do they want copies", Nina Turner, Sanders' campaign co-chair, told CNN over the summer.

"I was disappointed to hear that Bernie is sending his volunteers out to trash me", Warren told reporters after a town hall meeting. According to polls, Sanders has also opened a small lead in New Hampshire, followed closely by Biden, Warren and Buttigieg.

Speaking to reporters in Iowa City, Sanders did not dispute the authenticity of the script but downplayed its significance and suggested he had nothing to do with it.

The Democratic Party past year hailed its historically diverse presidential field, but one by one minority candidates have fallen by the wayside, the latest being African-American Senator Cory Booker, who dropped out on Monday.

The accusation comes at a very inconvenient time for Mr Sanders. "They are wrong. If the best Democrats can offer is business as usual after Donald Trump, Democrats will lose". Bernie knows me and has known me for a long time...

The Sunrise Movement said that 80 percent of its members, most of whom are under 35, supported Sanders.

There are 12 candidates now vying for the party's nomination to take on Trump in November.

While tensions have been building for months between the campaigns and their supporters, the candidates had so far refused to go after each other directly. "The fact that two senators get together to chat becomes a big deal, that's a real problem I think from the media that we should be thinking about".

"This fire was started", Chamberlain said, but "it can be put out by leadership by example from the top".
