Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 Rakes In Millions For Prevent Cancer Foundation

After a week of thrilling speedruns, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2020 came to a close in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

To date, Awesome Games Done Quick has raised over $25 million for multiple charities including the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, AbleGamers, and Organization for Autism Research.

The money raised, largely through donations sent by viewers, will be given to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

As always, a plethora of Speedrunners attended en-masse to show off their skills and attempt to beat records on their favourite games.

First Official Trailer For 'Morbius' Starring Jared Leto Is Here
Here's hoping Morbius can deliver something similarly entertaining despite all its brooding and bats and Leto-as-Cool-Jesus angst. Michael Morbius attempted to cure himself of a rare blood disease and consequently developed a form of vampirism instead.

Of course, this isn't the end of Games Done Quick. SGDQ 2019 was the first GDQ event ever to raise $3 million, coming in about $100,000 under this year's AGDQ total. In total, a legion of speedrunning fanatics and fans have donated over $3 million to charity this year alone. That max donation total was nearly certainly the funds brought in from bit donations and channel subscriptions throughout the week, which are typically tallied toward the end of the show.

And in that final Super Metroid run, AGDQ 2020 became the second GDQ in event history to break the $3 million threshold and would later become the record holder.

Up next for Games Done Quick, it's a six-month recovery window before Summer Games Done Quick comes to Bloomington, MN. Or check out Games Done Quicks official YouTube channel, where videos are still being cut and uploaded. That event is set to take place from June 21-28, while Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 will run from an undetermined location from January 3-10.
