Washington D.C. [USA], Jan 12 (ANI): The United State's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells has said that they were closely following the visit of 15 foreign envoys, including US Ambassadors trip to Jammu and Kashmir and it was an important step.

Wells will travel to New Delhi on January 15-18 to attend the Raisina Dialogue.

Wells was referring to the Indian government-organised two-day trip to the occupied region last week.

Meanwhile, a rebel group of PDP, along with other former ministers and lawmakers, met Lt. Governor Murmu on Wednesday before meeting the foreign envoys on Thursday. Under worldwide pressure, the Indian government had organised a two-day trip of 15 foreign diplomats posted in India where they interacted with political figures and civil society members.

Diplomats from EU, Australia and Gulf were also expected to be part of the delegation but eventually dropped out.

USA -based Boeing said the company was aware of media reports of a plane crash in Iran and was gathering more information. Flightradar 24 tracking service said it was "following reports' of the Boeing 737 crash shortly after the take-off".

Domestically, the Modi government was criticised by opposition parties for not allowing local citizens, including top political parties to visit the occupied region.

In the same hearing, Congress members questioned the Indian narrative of imposing a curfew citing "security" concerns.

"The Modi government takes foreign envoys who are influenced by them to Kashmir to show normalcy in Kashmir".

They also questioned why the Indian government was not being transparent about the matter.

The restrictions were imposed on August 5 previous year when India scrapped special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated that into two Union Territories.

The highly militarized zone was locked down with thousands of additional troops with the political leadership imprisoned and a communication lockdown imposed days prior to the final decision.

"It has been 5-6 months since abrogation of Article 370 but till today Internet services remain suspended". The internet is yet to be restored in the Kashmir valley.
